Yeah, Sri Lanka is a wonderfully chilled place to simply exist and do very little in the way of tasks.  Time has taken on a new meaning here: I've lost track of days already, and my only big concerns are exploring new cheap curry shacks, and watching the massive waves roll in on this superb sandy beach.  I say "watch" the waves, as I have cut my foot quite badly on coral during the first 5 MINUTES in the ocean on the 1st day...unreal!  It's tough to heal cuts in this heat, humidity, and well, my inability to just rest the damned thing isn't helping matters...it might be some time before I'm back in action and can stand on a surfboard.  I've been unable to resist the lure of frisbee on the beach - had a great game with a couple of Aussies yesterday, followed by some tasty 85 cent Sri Lankan "Lion" beer.

Getting here was a major ordeal with 37 hours of flying, transfering, Colombo public bus, train and tuk-tuk (3 wheeler taxi) required to deliver me to this little town on the Southern coast of Sri Lanka.  But so, so worth it baby!

So, my little guesthouse is quite nice - 88 Rupee per day is around $7.75, and it has a nice hammock in a palm garden to whiule away the hot afternoons with my trusty new Ipod -  Jack Johnson and some Faithless really fit the bill in this place.  Hikkaduwa is a major surf spot - lots of talented international surfers here - it's going to be fun trying to slide into these waves and not get in their way - but that's what this white manatee is going to do...but first we'll continue to work on the tan, build some tolerance to Sri Lankan beer and curry, and heal that bloody foot!

I'm heading off to Kandy and Nuwara Eliya in the "hill country" in a bit...that sounds an awfull lot like planning doesn't it?  But, I've had enough of the internet cafe, time to get back to da beach...

All the best!

Scott

Well...a cut foot isn't the first medical setback I would have bet on...if you know what I mean. Glad to see you're having fun buddy. Enjoy. Depressed in the Deep-Freeze

Hi Scott, So, on the road again with beach relax to start go idea. Sea is so strong that it made us scare. The inside country is so nice and various, you will have great time there with Bouddha in all positions. Don't forget to enjoy tea, it is on of the best we never test. Good luck, good trip. Your friend Philippe & Chantal

Bonjour Philippe et Chantal! Yes, the sea is quite strong here...I'm in the hills now - Ella, Haputale, Kandy. It's quite nice, but several recent bombings of buses have me a bit rattled...I'll write more from Thailand in a few days. Scott

Rod, the beer is actually quite good - I've alternated btwn Lion and Carlsberg. Nothing heavy, just a nice steady flow of cold suds on hot afternoons and evenings... Tola, I'll consult you on all other medical issues...
