Camping in Lakewood
From Camping in Northern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula in Lakewood, United States on Sep 24 '05
Trying to find a campground in Northern Wisconsin at night was extremely difficult. We had one advantage and that was that my mom was already there. We were also lucky that we could still get service on our cell phones (although now that I'm here I can't). We had Google directions which would have served us better had I not, at one point, assumed that the mileage they gave was 7 miles off and just accepted that, actually they were right on if I had just had more faith. There was another point where Alex was just reading them wrong too, we were looking for a right hand turn instead of a left hand turn. Throw in the fact that it's pitch black up here you can't read the street signs until you're directly on top of them, you have an interesting combination of navigation.
We did finally find the place and we did get our tent up (not as great a task in the dark, but we did have help from my mom and step-dad at this point). The campground is awesome. Everything is clean and pretty and we're also the only people here, which makes it all the more enjoyable (another benefit of camping so late in the year). Once we got situated we had some sandwiches, listened to some music, and had some drinks. I had a few drinks (rum and Pepsi, my favorite) and then we finally went to bed in our warm and comfy tent...ah I love the great outdoors.
