Vientiane
From Lady Carmel's Adventure in Vientiane, Laos on Aug 29 '07
To be honest I didn't really get up to much in Vientiane...after the 4 hour bus journey (which again had some amazing country side to look at) I checked into a nice hotel with cable TV, walked about and sat at a restaurant on the river front and got chatting to this 70 year old Japanese man who tried to set me up with his young friend - very funny! Basically at most of the river front restaurants you just sit on cushions on the ground and your drink is placed on a piece of round board that lies on an old car tyre...very chilled and definitely the cheap way to eat and drink!
Walked about the town the next day and visited the main temples and monuments - the names of which I have forgotten now! The most interesting thing to happen to me there was bump into two monks, get some photos taken with them and walk with them to the temple where they were studying......they invited me in but I decided an hour with them was enough! The monks got really excited when they heard I used to work at Yahoo and proceeded to give me their yahoo email addresses so I promised to send them the pics I took!
Took a flight to Hanoi then on the Saturday evening - details of the adventure there to come in next entry!!
