Probably the least known of all the destinations on our 3 week trip, Olomouc was nestled in the south eastern part of the Czech Republic and boasted a UNESCO World Heritage site in its main square. The site being the Holy Trinity Column that seemed strangely out of place as this dark gothic column clashed with the brighter, more colourful buildings that hugged the fringes of the main square.

Olomouc (pronounced Ola-moose) was a stop over before we arrived into Cesky Krumlov which we had heard so much about and has recently been put on to the list of semi well known places that everyone goes on about.

"...drinking Czech beers that were brewed on the premises..."

The town was a little disappointing but it was pleasant nether the less with aesthetic streets, churches and parks and a nice selection of eateries and bars. It wasn't that it was a grotty, run down place, it was quite the opposite. For me it lacked that X factor that you get with some places. It was nice that there were no tourists there apart from the local tourists. It made the place unique to me as | knew not many people who would travel to the Czech republic would come to Olomouc and it would certainly impress Czechs that I would meet later on in life and talk about this town close the the Polish boarder.

The highlight on Olomouc was drinking Czech beers that were brewed on the premises in large brass brewers and were located directly behind the bar which added an originality to it all. And at 50p it was bloody good value and it was a nice tasting beer as well. We would now head up to Prague and connect with a south bound train heading to Linz in Austria that would stop off at Cesky Budejovice, the origin Budwieser beers or Budvar.
