I wrote at the very beginning of this blog that I didn't want to hope for anything because I did not want to be disappointed.  I also wrote about jobs that I dreamed to have.  I wanted to cook, I wanted to dive and I wanted to work on a boat.  I've managed to bring those dreams to a reality.  I've recently started a job on Waltzing Matilda.  This boat sails the gorgeous Whitsunday Islands and hits the best snorkeling spots and meets up with dive boats for those enthusiastic about diving.  My job is a host (make sure people are enjoying themselves), cook (for 16), and deckhand.  So allow me to recap what I'm doing.  I get to cook on a boat that sails in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and dive when I get the chance.

I've done two trips so far and have absolutely loved it.  The best part is that I get to meet 14 new people every 3 days.  I've got offers to come and cook for an English couple at their new retirement house in Spain and others to crew other peoples sailing ships.  The people have definitely made this for me.

In regards to the food, I need to be chef Michael Smith.  I get the same ingredients each trip and need to make different things from them so the crew (myself and the skipper) don't get tired of them.  However, they are all new to the passengers - so I have a couple of old faithfuls for when I get lazy.

I get to see amazing sunsets, even better stars and sleep on the deck of a 60ft yacht (weather permitting).  I'm loving life right now.

What are you cooking for these people? What kinds of people end up on the boat? Old? Young? Fun? From where? You going to be working in Spain next year or what?

who's got 2 thumbs and is jealous? this guy! sounds amazing. what kind of things are you cooking? anything that the guests find exotic but you see as normal? or vice versa? Keep up the posts and pictures, both are super entertaining. Cheers!

I don't want you to be jealous, but while you did all that boring stuff, I was able to sit in front of a computer all day! =)
