Two other day trips from Trapani were the beach resort community of San Vito lo Capo and the Medieval City of Erice.  Erice is about a 20 minute ride up the mountain from Trapani.  They have a funicular that takes you up the mountain, the views of Trapani and the coast are amazing as you go up (Trapani is a peninsula, so you have water on three sides, and it curves into a hook).   When we went up, the weather was sunny and gorgeous.  Up in the mountains, it was cooler and then the fog and clouds rolled in and it got down right chilly, and a little eerie looking.  It reminded me of all those old movies that are set in London with the thick fog rolling in.  I was just waiting for Sherlock Holmes to surface.  The city while charming, is aimed at entertaining tourist.  It is filled with souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes, and tons of old churches.  And a bell tower that this time I got to climb!!

San Vito on the other hand is about an hour and half bus ride from Trapani.  It has a gorgeous white sand beach, and tons of restaurants and night life.  It is all about sun, fun and gelato!!  I'm not sure if I mentioned this in the past or not, but one of they ways they serve gelato here is in a roll, making an ice cream sandwich of sorts.  Wonderful - try it some times.  I have ten extra inches around my waist thanks to this little treat!!

The roll is adding to my rolls!!
