Sun baking in Split

Split officially started our holiday from our holiday. After 3 months of traveling, it was time to relax at the beach for a while. And relax we did... well, after a 10 hour overnight bus ride from Pula, which was not fun!
We stayed at a very central apartment, only seconds away from a bakery, internet cafe, super-market and the main strip in town (which smells and should be avoided). The beach was a bit further away, but still only about 15 minutes walk.
Our time here, while very enjoyable to us, isn't very bloggable because most of our time was spent on the beach. The beaches aren't really sandy, they have pebbles and rocks on them, but the water was really warm and calm.

One thing of note in the town are the bottle Nazis. Elena and I were walking down the main strip and were approached by what looked like a city worker holding a plastic bag. He offered to take the empty water bottle Elena was holding (and would later be refilled) and had pretty much taken it before we realised what was going on. Strange. But later, we were approached by the same guy who wanted to take my water bottle. When I tried to explain that I wasn't finished with it and planned to refill it, he gave me an annoyed grunt and walked off. After seeing a few more of these guys, we came to the conclusion that there must be a cash back deal for recycling bottles. Traveler beware.

We also wandered through the basements of Diocletian's Palace, which were very cool and very well preserved. There are also more Roman ruins from the same time in the area that we discovered when we went for a walk through the city.
