Did I tell you all that I have a gracious wife?  While she is spending the weekend with Ryan in Berlin, I am traveling in Scandinavia with 8 students!  At 11:30 last night, we boarded a night train from Berlin to Malmo, Sweden.  Six of us slept in triple bunk beds in a sleeper car.  The highlight of the train ride (which I slept through, of course) was when our train was loaded onto a boat and ferried across the Bering Sea!  Unbelievable!

Once in Malmo (a city I had never even heard of, by the way), we got a quick bite to eat, changed our money, stopped by the tourist office for advice, and headed out to see the city.  We walked to the Malmo castle, hoping to explore a Renaissance fortress.  But what we found was a brick building that surprisingly reminded me of the Cinderella Raisin packing plant in Selma, CA.  The castle museum wasn't open yet, so we explored the beautiful, swan filled park behind it before heading to the most recently developed part of the city.  There we touched the Baltic Sea, saw the latest and greatest in Swedish architecture, and took pictures of the tallest building in Sweden, the Turning Torso.  It was pretty amazing.  From there, we headed to the old city center and had a nice lunch at a cafe before boarding a train for Copenhagen, Denmark.

It's going to be a whirlwind weekend but lots of fun.

We will explore Copenhagen today and tomorrow before heading on a train to Oslo, Norway, and back home to Berlin on Monday.  It's going to be a whirlwind weekend but lots of fun.
