Looking back on my visit to Hong Kong I struggle to understand why some people like the city so much. The one thing that stood out was the pollution, it is an incredibly dirty city. I'm also unable to figure out why so many people will travel from Oz just to holiday there. In the past people were able to at least go on a mega shopping spree and save lots of $$, this is no longer the case with many things priced similar to Australia. I guess everybody likes different things and what I might dislike, other people will love... In saying this it wasn't all bad.
The group consisting of Scott and Jamie (tour learders), Brett and Dean (from Vic), Annabel and I got along reasonbly well. It was a much smaller group when compared to Sri Lanka. On the night of our arrival we got to experience a local bar which came with fluro flashing lights and plenty of karaoke, just the way it is in the movies! The following morning we opened up the day with an Asian breakfast where I couldn't bring myself to eat chicken feet, not for brekkie anyway! The day was free to explore all that HK had to offer. My highlight was the Peak Tram where it felt like you were climbing vertically with a cliff on either side ... It was definately worth it with some spectacular views at the top. The botanical gardens on the walk down was beautiful and relaxing.
For dinner we visited the Temple St markets which is a must do for HK, so I'm told anyway. The markets are interesting where you can get brand imitation in the world and dvd's from cartoon to animal porn (weird!). The food was great with some very good seafood dishes. After a good sleep we were off to China!
