Well where do we start! Thanks to China Airlines being late, we got off the flight at 7:05am local time in Frankfurt Germany and needed to catch our connecting flight to London-Heathrow at 7:35am. Yep that’s right- 30 mins to line up, get boarding passes, and get to the gate in this massive airport (few signs and what there was of them, rarely in English). The fella at the check-in counter in Sydney made it sound so easy “just go to the transfer desk when you get to Frankfurt”. Well guess what?….. it didn’t exist!!!!! So following the signs to connecting flights (we think), and asking nearly everyone in sight what were we doing (blank faces!), we found the gate that we had to go 2 (though still with no boarding pass that we were suppose to collect from the famous ‘transfer desk’). To get there though of course, there was enhanced security... 'Cos we had ALL the time in the world to be taking off our boots for them, plus half our clothing!! Kev enjoyed the German pat- down! Well surprise surprise we missed the British Airways connecting flight to London. Yep that was near panic time for Jules!!! So after floating around back and forwards, asking more blank faces, we went out on a limb and moved to terminal 1. Thank goodness- we found civilization at last- there were real people around AND an information desk. We were escorted to an office and it was here that we realised that many others were supposed to be on that same BA flight. In turn, there had been another flight (Luftansa Airways at 8:25am) organized for those of us on that connecting flight as it was ‘obvious that no-one could possibly make that original flight’. Well, it would have nice to be informed of that. So after copping an absolute earful from a cranky German airport official (silly bitch), we found out we’d missed the 8:25am flight also. At this point Kev had a few words 2 say as it wasn’t a good idea of her to carry on after us both traveling for 32hours and still not at our destination! Finally we were directed properly to our next flight- the 10:05am to London. Hoorayy!!!!!!! It took us atleast an hour, but we had such a good laugh about it in the end. The long awaited flight was a really good one in the end. We finally arrived at Heathrow at 11am local time. Therefore converting that to 9pm Aussie time on the 16th August (you do the maths). Needless to say Heathrow was a sight for sore eyes- the excitement and adrenaline then kicked in!
