Driving with Tony K to visit Jason B
From Taking JAK on the Road in Greenwich, United States on Sep 19 '07
Took Justice Anthony Kennedy, my '07 Nissan Murano, on the road for his first big road trip. We took big bad I-95 north from Alexandria all the way to Greenwich, CT. On the way we passed some old favorites, including Newark DE (go Hens!), the Jersey turnpike (hi Mom!), the George Washington Bridge, and the Route 9A exit to the upper west side of Manhattan. I suspect I am the only person who gets as emotional as I do driving on 95. I arrived in Greenwich around 3:30 (good time, even with the aftermath of a terrible accident on the Del Mem Br), and promoted the useful arts for several hours at a Starbucks on the main street. Met Jason around 6:00 for more work and then off to dinner at his favorite place to eat (the name of which escapes me) and to watch the Mets choke at the end of the game. Friday we worked from home for much of the day (for reals!) and in the afternoon went out for a long walk during which, as usual, we discussed the events that would have to occur for us to buy a boat. Then Jason took me on a tour of major sites of his formative years. After checking out the town, we went in search of food and entertainment. We ended up with Family Guy DVDs, tequila, and stuff to make seafood risotto. I concentrated my energy on the first two, with only a supporting role in the last one. Probably for the best, because I was legitimately impressed with what he made. Jason's friends Merrin and Amit came up from the city for dinner and stayed over at the house too. Saturday we all drove and walked around some more and talked more about how we could end up having a boat. We ate lunch out, where they tried to explain cricket to me. I feel confident I could watch a game if one were on, but seriously: Lots of rules. Nothing is better than football. We came back and took naps -- I got to see the Michigan-Penn State game, which could have been better. Saturday night we had steaks on the grill, and I was in charge of corn on the cob and mashed potatoes. And, of course, margaritas. After dinner, my neuroses got the better of me and I ended up dropping the guys off in town and then driving home starting at 10pm in order to ensure that I would be home in time for Shannon Lankford's 5th birthday party. There were no cars on the road so Justice Anthony Kennedy and I were home by 2:30. That car is a joy to drive. Overall, an outstanding road trip experience with lots of fun adventures as usual.
As usual, we discussed the events that would have to occur for us to buy a boat.
