Bidding the delightful Gibraltar a fond farewell we hopped on a bus to Seville. The journey comprised of long delays and having to watch the movie, Independence Day, solely in Spanish. Come to think of it, it was a lot more enjoyable that way. It was fairly late when we arrived but we soon got settled by some more beer and tapas. The tapas bar concept had well and truly been accepted by us both.

The first full day in Seville, and as per usual we spent it by wandering the streets robbing old ladies and pushing over moped riders. I lie of course. We eventually found a place that served breakfast before doing a fairly comprehensive tour of the Cathedral. Highlights of this magnificent construction included Christopher Columbus’ tomb and the ultra impressive half Christian, half Muslim tower. Tour complete we made our way over to the old Moorish palace of the Alcazar with its lovely gardens and architecture. Very similar to the Alhambra, but nowhere near as pretty. That isn’t taking anything away from the Alcazar, the Alhambra just happens to be a favourite of mine! Strangely enough, while wandering back to our pension we stumbled upon a TexMex restaurant. Looking inside we discovered Man U were about to play. That was it then! Beer, Mexican food, and soccer meant the night was pretty much over!

The bullring was not to my liking, but I still found the macabre arena very interesting indeed

Seville is a very historical, and beautiful city and there was much to see and do. Trying to squeeze it all in within a 3 day slot was difficult. We had found a bull ring during our roaming and on one particular day they were doing tours. The bullring was not to my liking, but I still found the macabre arena very interesting indeed. There were no bullfights on but I don’t think I would have gone anyway. The Torre del Oro (or Tower of Gold!!) was closed much to my disappointment – I had visions of me being like Indiana Jones, climbing to the top of the tower to discover both treasure and obligatory hot chick. Alas it wasn’t to be. The Plaza del Espana, complete with palace, gardens and fountain was very impressive though. At night the TexMex always beckoned. The food was lovely, the beer was cold and the fact that the cute little barmaid was throwing me the eye every night made our evening visits a must! I hope she was looking at me!
