Ios - the addictive island
From The Journey Begins in Ios, Greece on May 13 '06
So I have not fallen off the face of the planet but I seriously do not want to leave this place ever. My day is this: get up at 11, eat breakfast at this cafe with an amazing view, put on sunblock, we all head to the beach, hang out at this hotel/beach club thing down there with a pool and beach volleyball and anything else fun imaginable, then at 7 come back to the hostel, go for Gyros, have some drinks, then at 10 the hostel gives "welcome shots" to everyone, play drinking games, go to about 5 bars, come home around 4 and fall sleep. Then I repeat, occasionally going on quad bikes to explore the island and wandering the maze of streets and little shops in the village.
let me tell you right now it is heaven. 2 of the guys I had hung out with in Athens named Travis and Sean (the Canadians in military in afganistan) arrived a few days after me, and I had a nice roomate named Amanda from New York so we hung out a lot. ALSO a million aussies are here, so two Tazmanian guys I've befriended are so so fun! Overall it is a party island and I don't mind one bit!! Maureen you would be SO proud of me being young and drinking and not acting 40!!!! (though there are 40 year olds here acting 20.....)
I was supposed to be here for about 3 days...... but that was on sunday, so I'm staying for the weekend and I'll head to Mykonos on Sunday this week..... though I must say I'm half tempted to stay here.... I was offered a job even......
SO this is an addition to the above. I ended up staying in Ios way longer, 12 nights total and it was so great. The people were the biggest draw, many Aussies, Trent and Ben from Tazmania and Aleta from NSW, as well as some Quebeqios girls from montreal, one of whom named Dominique came with me to Crete (next entry). I twisted my ankle about a week ago, so that put me out of commission for a day, and then I got this cold that everyone has had on the entire island apparently, so I took it a bit easier on the drinking to assist recovery. I was offered another job at the hostel as the owners Francesco and Maria and I got along really well, so though it's tempting to head back after Crete I'm still reminding myself there is still the rest of Europe to see, SO I think it was good we left when we did!!
Again photos are on their way......
