Simple Sunday

France, like Italy has what I call a national holiday each Sunday: the family lunch. This extraordinary experience is not just mere meal. It is a marvel that lasts for anywhere from four to eight hours. The food and the conversation are the core of the cultural and family bonding event. I went to Yves' house near the Erdre River to have lunch with him and his cousin Jean-Paul. I know that the French are not keen on timeliness like monochronic Americans, so when I arrived five minutes early by bus, I just took a walk around his neighboorhood in order to not derange him too much while he was finishing up his preparations.

Many great hours of conversation and great food passed, with a walk on the Erdre river, and a lot learned.
More to come on this entry later as it is already late and the site did not save what I wrote - it all disappeared, and I have not the courage or strength to rewrite it all now.
