So I got into Rehoboth last night, and had the lady lead me to the Dogfish Head Pub and Distillery for dinner and excellent beers. I could have ordered a stout and just had that for dinner, but I decided to brave the food and it was actually really good! After I twiddled my thumbs and drank a little more beer (boo hoo, right? The 60-Minute never tasted so good!!) I had the lady find the Guest House, and there Tom opened the door for me, remarked on how I'm a surprise guest (I guess road trippers don't often spontaneously call up such establishments from the evening ferry) and introduced me to the regulars, a couple staying for their first true winter experience in town. Wonderful people. I was exhausted, declined an invitation to stay up and chat over a glass of wine, and headed to bed. AFTER one of the guests carried my suitcase for me up the stairs. So nice! It was before ten that I fell asleep.

I woke up around 6, then slept til 7, and headed down for breakfast, where a fresh pot of coffee was waiting to be turned on. Now that's a way to get to my heart real quick. I spent the next hour or so talking with a guest, and his partner and Tom when they woke up, and had a delightful morning. I can't imagine ever staying at a hotel again. I know, I know, that's the exact opposite of what a few of you reading may remember me saying a few years ago. But I was gravely wrong. Not only is my car safe, I'm safe, I'm meeting great and interesting people, and learning about the town and the community.

Tom told me I don't have to leave right away as it says on my door (offseason special treatment I suppose, wink wink), so I'm not. I have a date with some beer at 3pm, when Dogfish Head Brewery leads a tour.

After packing up most of my belongings- oh how I scatter my things, Kristen can attest to this, but it feels most like home then, no?- I explored the town.

After peaking into the backyard, which is beautifully designed for warm-weather leisure, I walked down the quiet road to the beach. Literally. There was a boardwalk along the beach, and if I didn't know any better I would have thought it was summer again. Without any snow, or tourists for that matter, the beach was pristine. I walked along the beach, and out over the water on a small dock, as I listened to the waves, felt myself calming, and called loved ones to share my pleasure. I'm finding it impressively easy to be quite happy. Completely digesting that happiness without calling someone to talk about my delight and share any joy or heartache they may offer to discuss, that's my next project: how to thoroughly digest and process, and truly to absorb a wonderful happening, completely alone. So far, and without exception, I have bubbled over with gaiety and called someone. One time I waited til morning. Baby steps.

Anyway, I took my nice walk, then turned to walk along the residential streets (I want to walk a half hour every day at the very least), took some more pictures, and headed to find lunch. More pretty streets. And a delicious roasted portabella sandwich on focaccia with caramelized red onions, wilted spinach, and roasted red peppers seasoned with goat cheese. Yeah, my mouth is watering thinking about it. That was from Cafe Sole, one of the best restaurants in Delaware. And then I left beautiful Rehoboth Beach for Milton.
