Day 4:

We left Paris on the 1st of June to travel to La Rochelle by train for 3 hours. We had no idea where we were going to sleep that night, or what to expect when we got to La Rochelle but all turned out very well, well almost!

When our train pulled up into La Rochelle we went straight to the tourism office and asked for some help on finding some where to stay. We ended up walking around the streets of La Rochelle and then getting on a bus and going to a camping ground. When we arrived we asked the man if they hire tents and he said no. He asked us if we had a tent and we said no and then he said well you can't stay here so goodbye! After our bad luck trying to hire a tent, we walked around for about 2 hours, meeting a lot of local French people who tried to help us but ended up getting us more lost than we were in the first place. We ended up catching a bus back into the centre of town and finding the cheapest accommodation available... a 2 star hotel! We rested for a while and then went out for our dinner... a cheap but very nice pizza restaurant! Cost a grand total of €3.50 each!

Day 5:

Had a sleep in and then went and had chocolate croissants for breaky and wandered around the streets of La Rochelle. We bought a baguette and some fillings and found a river and sat and ate our lunch, in the company of a lot of ducks! After lunch we went for a walk until we found the beach where we stayed for the rest of the day relaxing!

Day 6:

Slept in again but woke up to the sound of lots of people below our window as the Saturday market was on. We walked around the market and bought some fresh fruit and baguettes again for lunch and then went to the beach all day. In the afternoon we bought ice creams and then went and had kebabs by the sea for dinner.

Day 7:

Again we went to the market and buoght fresh fruit and baguettes for lunch and croissants for breaky. We just managed to get on a bus to go to an island just off the coast of La Rochelle called Il de Re. After some language difficulties we were able to buy or ticket and all was fine.

Had a great day on the island - relaxing on the beach, and walking around.

When we got back we went and bought a €3.50 pizza and then went for a walk and watched the sun go down and had a final ice cream on our way back to the hotel.
