Escaping the city life once more, we travelled into the wilderness of Yosemite National Park, to our tent in Camp Curry. We were surprised at how cold it was (freezing in fact) and we were quite unprepared wardrobe-wise. We layered up our t-shirts and jumpers, and kept them on for 3 days solid - even in bed!
Bears are apparently very active at this time of year having just woken up from their long winter's sleep, so all food and even toiletries had to be stored in bearproof lockers to prevent unwelcome guests in our tent at night. Just last week a bear had ripped the door off a car to get to a packet of wet wipes in the glovebox!

Our first day was spent hiking 2000 ft up to the magnificent Vernal and Nevada waterfalls, affording wonderful views of the valley below. That evening we rewarded our efforts by settling down to do a puzzle in front of the fire with a hot chocolate and marshmallows - heavenly.
The temperature plummeted the following day, so we drove around in the snow taking photos of the remainder of the valley from the warmth of the car. We then had two nice surprises. Firstly, the resort staff took pity on us and upgraded us to a heated tent for our final night and secondly we bumped into our uni pals Manoj and Vanya again - it's a small world after all!
