Day One:

We arrived in London at about 11am on Friday morning with nowhere to go. Well, it wasn't that extreme. Megan had arranged so we would be staying with her friend LB, but we weren't exactly sure where she lived. We took the bus from Heathrow to Teddington and then caught another bus over to Twickenham. And of course we were carting around all of our baggage, too, so you can understand the headache I was getting. Megan knew of a shop that sold cheap sim cards for her mobile she borrowed from a friend, and when we rang LB, she didn't answer for the first three calls. We were getting a little worried that we'd be homeless for the first night, but tried not to let it bother us, so we hauled our stuff into the KFC (I know, typical American's grabbing a bite to eat at an American restaurant, but we hadn't eaten in hours and just needed a place to sit down for a moment.) LB finally rang us and told us she was at work at a pub just down the street, so we them migrated to Lloyd's and waited for an hour for her to get off work. LB made us a drink called greeneyes, I think it had orange juice and some blue liquor, not exactly sure. We got funny looks from everyone since we were dressed in our airplane clothes (sweatpants and t-shirts) while everyone else was slightly dressed up. I didn't care, though, I was just thankful to sit for a bit.

Our room at LB's was about the size of a closet, nice and cozy sleeping next to the hoover and all. Megan and I decided that we would take turns sleeping on the couch and sleeping on the floor. After we dropped off our luggage, all I really wanted to do was shower, and so I did and then Megan followed suit. I just needed to wash the travel from my body. Understandable, yah?

When we unpacked the food portion of our luggage, we got made fun of by LB and her flatmate, Mei, because we told them that we brought a ton of CANDY. "Candy? you mean Sweets?" And for the next few days we were told to say Candy for their listening pleasure. Hahaha.

Now it was time to visit Megan's host family where we were encouraged to sit and chat with them over Indian food and wine. Her little brothers were adorable! And we also got to meet Lauren, who was staying with them for this semester, from Wisconsin. After a crazy time with them, we went back to Lloyd's and met up with Megan's friend Ashley and got on the piss, as they say. It was a crazy night and I seemed to be doing everything wrong. Bars in England are far more strict than back in Iowa, which is probably a good thing. I had to go to the bathroom, so naturally I was taking my beverage with me, that was wrong. I had to leave it on the stairs with the bouncer there. Then, I was accidentally dancing, not hardly even dancing so much as moving to the beat.. haha... at our table, and I got told that if I wanted to dance, I had to go to the designated dance floor. Okay! No problem. BUT no drinks on the dancefloor. Jeesh, I was striking out all over the place.

I was fascinated with the toilets. Hah.

Apparently we ended the night with drunken food, none of which I actually got to eat. Not really quite sure why, but if I had to guess I would say that I was off chatting away with strangers.
