Dad came in mid Dec to spend Xmas with me & so I took him down to the mountains, great lakes & glaciers of Patagonia in the southern Andes. Went to see the Moreno glacier, which is an ice glacier the size of London (think about that) and which looks like it´s sliding down from an Andean valley into Lago Argentina. Infact that´s exactly what it´s doing, at a snail´s pace! So you can stand there from several viewing platforms, watching & hearing huge chunks of compressed ice breaking off due to the fwd pressure and thundering into the lake beneath!

Elsewhere in Patagonia we walked to Lake Cerro, beneath the imposing Mt Fitz Roy peak... which I was happy with until I realised toward the end that i´d walked 20 whole KM!! ;-o Also walked on a glacier (Viedma) which was good fun & made my Dad very happy, as he hadn´t trekked on a glacier for over 30yrs.. when his mate (Dave Brooker) fell down a crevasse!! (It´s OK though, he survived!) So Dad loved that & I was fairly happy with the Tia Maria they handed us at the end of the trek, served with hacked off glacial ice.. Beautiful!!
