Luckily for me NZ has a long history for gold mining, so obviously I had to have a go.  We visited a cool gold mine museum in which they showed you the art of panning, and guess what?  I hit gold big time!  So before I continue I know who my real friends are, so know one befriend me for my riches.  It took about 30mins to reveal my nugget, I could not believe my luck.  It must be at least 1mm square flake, bound to be worth millions.

On the way home still basking on the high, we stumbled upon the infamous bungy-jump.  Before I came away I promised myself I would not go anywhere near one, being scared of heights.  But one look would not hurt, and yes it did look bloody scary, feet tied together and jumping head first off a bridge did not look like fun.  So we watched and then left, or so we tried, but something weird happened I could not leave, I was being drawn to the queue.  Some how and I do not know why but I had persuaded Son to join me on a tandem jump - jumping tied together but not in the erotic way.

I can honestly say I have never been so scared, shaking and feeling very sick, I even tried to seek solace by asking advise from two 10 year old kids who were also jumping, sad as it sounds I really thought they could hold the 'holy grail' to relieve me from this torrid pain, but to no luck.  The next few minutes are a blur, we were tied together by our feet and shuffled to the edge, and given the count down.  Then we were airborne heading down at a silly speed then being flung back up, my god it was a rush, well worth it and well very scary.  But we did it with no elan and overtly scared but who cares.

Apart from scaring ourselves with the bungee jump, a video of which can be viewed when we return, we have also had lots of fun enjoying Christmas and New Year and hanging out in the great outdoors (when it's not been raining!)

We...

  • Went on a camping expedition to Kinloch where we made a fire on the lake shore, cooked our dinner and then stayed up until late telling ghost stories.
  • Hiked to the top of the skyline in Queenstown and then raced on the luge track.
  • Spent New Years at a house party in Kingston and met some really great New Zealanders
  • Puzzled our way through the maze at Puzzling World in Wanaka!
