Well I only went to the Dominican Republic VERY last minute - John had booked to go with his Dad when we had just got together so i wasn't going.

When john went we missed each other so much that John told me to get a flight over and he would sort out the hotel.  I went out there for his 2nd week.  I flew out on MyTravel which is a fantastic airline!

Romance is in the Air

I arrived in the Dominican and it was really hot but cloudy.  I couldn't wait to see John and knew I'd be with him within the hour ... wrong!  We sat at the airport on the bus for an hour and I don't even know why!  Then it took 2 Hours to get to Hacienda Gardens because at the other hotels people where taking forever to check in!  On the way to my hotel I saw some sights of the Dominican, I never knew how poor this country was, people where living in mud huts and slums and it was overrun with mopeds!  3 people to a moped was not an unusual sight!

I finally arrived at the Hacienda Gardens and I seen john walking towards the entrance to come and meet me, he looked so tanned and gorgeous and I ran off the bus and legged it over to him!  I was so happy to see him and I just kept kissing him.  We checked me into my room that John was moving into with me and I freshened up and we went to meet Alan (Johns dad) who was waiting at the bar for us, It had started raining when I got there but that didnt stop me from having a good time, we got something to eat and the food was gorgeous, it was buffett style and then we sat at the bar and Alan and I drank numerous Rum & Cokes - beware Dominican Rum is lethal!

The next day we stayed at the pool and it was again raining, I was gutted because they had had such lovely weather and i was getting the blame for bringing the wet weather with me! 

The week did brighten up and got HOT HOT HOT! it was weird being in the sun and seeing Christmas Trees!

John and Alan has already booked to go on a trip so I booked to go with them, we went to some cigar factory and some effort of a waterfall LOL To be honest the trip was poor but they had been on some fab ones before I had got there.  We had lots of nights where Alan and I would drink lots of Rum and get drunk :o)

The highlight of this holiday for me was the Horseriding in the hills, John and I did this and it was amazing, it was so hot that day and just riding along in the hills and seeing all the wildlife and peoples houses was brilliant.  We stopped at someones own house in the hills where we had a drink.  When we got off the horse I realised that I have an allergy to horse hair and my eye was so swollen!  John said people would think he had hit me LOL.  OK not funny but I got some funny looks!

We went to Ocean World - this is something you HAVE to do!!!  The place is brilliant, the shows are entertaining and so funny and the Sealion Show will make you get a lump in your throat!

John and I had booked to have a dolphin encounter, which was an hour in a pool with 2 of the Dolphins, this was something I had really wanted to do.  Watching them swim and play so close to you was amazing, we then got put into groups and John and I had our picture taken together with the dolphin.

We then got to play with them and pet them, dance with them, kiss them and hug them, video was taken and photos and we came home with our video and a few pic.  This is such a magical thing to share with someone you love.

All in all the Dominican Republic is a fantastic place to relax and make great memories.  The Beaches are beautiful and the people are lovely.  Put LOTS of suncream on when you go in the sea and just enjoy it.  It feels great to be alive when you go somewhere like this, pure luxury!
