Lake Atitlan - San Marcos
From Loafing in Central America ! in San Marcos, Guatemala on Dec 11 '06
A visit out to Lake Atitlan was on the cards, so we set off at 0600 on the chicken bus to Panachel (150km NW of Antigua) where we caught a boat out to the sleepy (& rather "Hippyish") village of San Marcos. It was a nice place, full of "healing & massage" places though.......which by all accounts Lissa could have done with some of, as she was laid up in bed for the 2 days we were there with a stomach virus !! It was a shame, however, Katharine & I ended up going on a couple of small hikes & I swam in the lake which was refreshing !! (Unlike Laguna de Apoyo which was as warm as a bath!). Katharine also cut my hair & we chilled out a while, before catching the boat back to the main town, then the bus back to Antigua. That evening, we met up with Annalies & her friend José & we all had dinner together at Juan Carls´ place. A great evening which ended up dancing at "la Sala". A perfect end to our short stay in a very colourful Guatemala.
