Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

Today we headed out of Montana through hills and farm country. Our first big stop was Little Bighorn, a.k.a. Custer's Last Stand. We got in for free with our National Parks Pass, and enjoyed a speech about the battle from one of the park rangers. We really enjoyed it more than we thought we would, and got some great photos.
Next we headed south, where we intended to stay in Casper, Wyoming, however we learned at the Welcome Center that Casper Mountain was on fire! We were assured that the city itself was safe and we could spend the night there without any worries, so we continued on our way. As we pulled into the city, we could see the smoke billowing from the mountain; it was very eerie. We could smell the smoke 40 miles north of town. As it turns out, sure we could stay in Casper...excepting all the hotels were booked. Between fire fighters and refugees, there were no rooms available for the next two towns. We drove down to little-known Wheatland, where we were able to get a nice room, wash some clothes, got some dinner, and were even able to sneak in a little Karaoke before heading to bed.
