Saturday, September 2 – birthday.

We wake up, have a quick breakfast at THEcafe and attempt to get to the pool early enough to get lounge chairs. 9:30am isn’t early enough. We splurge on two blue rafts for $40 and use them to lay poolside as well as to float around the pool. We try the wave pool, which was really fun, but really crowded. Kim almost loses a contact. We also try the lazy river which reminds us of our trip to Cancun.

That afternoon we go to the bathhouse spa for massages and take advantage of the facilities – eucalyptus steam room (Kim keeps asking “do you like this?” which is an indication that she doesn’t), Jacuzzi, hot and cold pools, and waterfall shower.

When we get back to the room we discover a gift from Shutterfly management, a bottle of great Grgich Hills chardonnay and chocolate covered strawberries. Yum!

For my birthday dinner we head up to the top floor for an exquisite meal at Mix. We sat outside where we had a fantastic view of the strip at night. I had roasted maine lobster "au curry" with coconut basmati rice. Kim had a salmon dish. This was perhaps the yummiest meal I’ve had in some time. My mother had attempted to pay for our meal, but the restaurant would not take her credit card over the phone and apparently lost the fax she sent them.
