This place is amazing. It took us nearly 24 hours to get here!! The night train was pretty good, beds were big, linen was clean and we both slept pretty well. Much better than the ones we went on in Europe last year! Things were going swimmingly, we even managed to get a cheap ticket to krabi, or so we thought. The man on the bus forgot to tell us when to get off to change buses. Consequently he drove us all the way to the port for koh samui, adding about 2 hours on to our long journey. Krabi was ok but nothing to write home about..we did however go to one of the funkiest bars ever that was all made of wood, had cushions all on the floor and a tree growing out the middle. Our hotel room cost us 200 Baht for the night, which is about 3 quid. And we had a big room with windows and ensuit, much better than the box in bangkok!! Just arrived in Phi Phi and this place is more amazing than anything either of us have ever seen! The beaches are white sand, the sea is bright green and warm, it truly is stunning. We quite honesly forgot that the tsunami had happened here and we were a little bemused at why there was so much building and rubble about. Apparently last year the stretch of coast we were staying on only had two resorts on it. Despite the builiding work it is now livley and full of rooms, bars, shops and lots of baby palm trees in place of the ones that were destroyed. Is rather sad when you actually think about it and we both feel that if we had more time it would be amazing to stay and help rebuild the community as part of the volunteer programme that is advertised all over.
