So our last day was a long one. A 9am flight to Lima, arriving at 11am. Our flight home wasn't until 10 minutes to midnight, so it was a long layover.
We managed to waste an hour or so by checking in all our bags so we wouldn't have to carry them around all day. I never knew you could check in 11 hours before a flight. So by waiting until the big line of people checking in was almost finished, we checked in at 12.00 or so. We walked around some of the shops and went to a travel agent to see about a city tour. It seemed overpriced and we already spent double our budget so we decided to take a taxi to Miraflores on our own.
we arrived in Miraflores which is a beautiful little section of Lima situated on a bluff over looking the Pacific ocean. There was a shopping center with restaurants built right into the bluff. We ate lunch at a table overlooking the ocean and watched some dudes paragliding.
I'll skip the taxi story.
So we arrived in Miraflores which is a beautiful little section of Lima situated on a bluff over looking the Pacific ocean. There was a shopping center with restaurants built right into the bluff. We ate lunch at a table overlooking the ocean and watched some dudes paragliding. we had good timing as the mist that was around all morning had finally disappeared.
After looking around in some shops we walked up the main avenue and eventually made it to the artisans market. It was mostly a tourist affair, but Ning bought some more jewelry and we walked back to the ocean and got some shots of the view as the sunlight got better.

Since the sun was going down and we were reminded every two seconds throughout the trip about the dangers lurking everywhere, we decided to head back to the airport. We looked for a taxi that looked less than 6 hundred years old and got the nicest lady driver. We chatted a bit and made it safely back to the airport in about 45 mns.
It was only 5.30 so we shopped and tried to sleep and walked back and forth and people watched. We went into a bar named "Smoking Bar". The first thing Ning noticed was all the signs that said "No smoking" . People were smoking everywhere though. Very weird.
Finally the time arrived and we took our uneventful flight back to NY. Everyone clapped when we landed....
