We arrived in Mainz after a nice long flight from Seattle to Philadelphia to Frankfurt...

Kayla and I started off the day with a nice little walking tour of the city of Mainz with two friends from grade school, Adam Hay and BJ Ebert...saw a lot of what there was to see, which really wasn't much...

Our first meal was enjoyed at an Italian restaurant right next door, haha i know, italian right...i am on my way to italy...but yes...italian...and it really wasnt too bad, we enjoyed a nice leisurely lunch and introduced BJ to his first glass of vino which i think he appreciated...

more and more students continued to arrive as the day went on..i ran into my friend from high school, Cole Mercer and i tagged along with him and some others as we did another walking tour of the city...we met a nice little man who had set up a booth on the side of the road (don't worry, this was legit) where he sold his homemade wine and grappa...he didn't speak a word of English and we didn't speak a word of German...but we had a great time getting to know him and trying to communicate with our hands...

kayla and i made the mistake of taking a little nap late in the afternoon and accidently sleeping through dinner, which i was told we should have been glad to miss! but we did make it out with everyone, literally almost everyone on the program, when we took over an american bar, pretty fitting for our first night in town i'd say...

all in all my first day in germany was quite an adventure and quite a lot of fun!
