No turtles in Tortuguero :0(
From Costa Rica in Tortuguero, Costa Rica on Dec 12 '03
Dec. 13 (San Jose - Tortuguero)
Early in the morning, we drove through Braulio Carrillo National Park to the canals lining the Atlantic Coast. We then headed off to a boat trip to Tortuguero. Tortuguero National Park preserves 21,000 hectares of tropical rain forest. Later in the afternoon, we took a boat trip into the jungle for wildlife observation with a local tour guide.
Although the morning started off rather rainy, we managed to squeeze in 2 boat trips through the canals of Tortuguero. During the boat trips, we encountered some of the incredibly diverse population of wildlife in Costa Rica including a cayman, howler monkeys, iguanas, and beautiful birds (not sure of the species but we sure don't see them in Cali). During the second boat trip we were caught off guard with a strong rain storm...and December is considered the beginning of Costa Rica's "dry season"...geez!
