Wroclaw
From Wheres and whys..... in Wroclaw, Poland on Dec 31 '04
Wroclaw is by far one of my favorite cities to visit in Poland. Not only is the city itself quite marvelous and beautiful, but it's nearness to the mountains makes it the ideal place for me to spend my time. Inexpensive, and easily accessible from Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava and Berlin, Wroclaw is a must see for anyone truly wishing to experience Poland on a traditional scale. Not the most well known of the Polish cities, it has the luxury of not being to touristy overall, but since it's designed for tourism the English speaking capabilities of the locals is quite extensive. Accommodation is easy to find on arrival, and is quite cheap as well. Market and small shop food is all local, so it also is at rock bottom prices, and freshness is guaranteed - no preservatives in their food.
One of the greatest accommodations I have ever discovered by accident is a wonderful hostel within the mountains south of Wroclaw. In the middle of nowhere, and surrounded by nothing but wilderness and mountains, stands a hostel on the top of one of the peaks. I visited this place at the beginning of winter, so the cold was extreme for the period of time I was there, but the views and the atmosphere were amazing. Inquire for more info...
