Chapter 7: Christmas away from home

No snow, no cold, no winter jackets, no desire to snuggle up at home after a freezing day, no christmas shopping, no annoying crowds of people at the shopping malls, no christmas music everywhere you go, no gift wrapping, no santa clauses everywhere, no time spent with family, no long time friends to personally give best wishes to, no christmas tree... is it really christmas? The calendar seems to say so, and i guess it must be true.

Is it really December 24th?

In order to try to recreate the christmas spirit a little, a couple of Oxfam volunteers and us decided to make a massive supper tonight. We've spent a lot of money on food, wine, and even rhum to make eggnogg (none of us have ever even tried it, but it sounded like a good thing to do). We'll spend the day cooking, and have a feast tonight. A fellow volunteer brought some decorations from home, which should help us feel jolly in this holiday season.

We hope all of you have a wonderful christmas, we send you our best wishes, and thank you for reading our journal. :)

heyhey malgos and jan.. :) j'ai pensé à vous deux le 24!! j'espère que vous avez eu un peu de repos et de temps pour vous pendant les fêtes.. if it makes you feel any better about being homesick, it was raining a bit and then it was 2o degrees the next day.. un peu bizarre, hein? Merry Christmas! How did your eggnog turn out? and Marge, did you bring out your guitar? I hope you tell us of your NYE celebrations with loads of details.. Do your hosts and new friends have any unique traditions to ring in the new year? Please keep writing! J'vous embrasse fort fort fort!

Hey guys! Sorry I missed out on yoru previoud postings cause you didn't sound out any %*$%!@ updates! Thats cool...my bad. So merry Xmas and happy new year to you both. I loved your story about the weekend getaway. My stomach dropped a couple of times reading about your adventure and getting harassed. And..of course...the flat tires! haha for me the problem was always with the starter, breaking every 20 minutes, having to find another mechanic. You just have to enjoy situations like that and laugh, because you get screwed everywhere you go! Ok well nice to read your stories...take care! -Samir
