Day 1 & 2 Perth – Kalbarri  – Shark Bay

With a very early start we met up with 24 people on the western exposure bus, along with our guide/driver Peter and left Perth heading North to Nambung National Park and the fascinating Pinnacles Desert. After exploring these unique formations we continued our journey northwards along coastal roads to Geraldton. After a short break we head out to some local sand dunes for an adrenalin rush sand boarding down these huge slopes. This is a sport that neither of us had ever done. Luckily there was no injuries, great fun altogether but you end up with sand in every orrifice of your body!!!

From here we continued on to Kalbarri and our overnight accommodation. No luxuries here, 5 of us had to cook chicken teryaki for 25 people on a stove and BBQ, masterchef would have been impressed!! Over a few beers we got to know everyone on the trip, got a cool mix of every nationality and age. Our guide Peter was a retired cop who we soon nick-named "BEAT THE HEAT PETE". This was his motto, despite being a western Ozzie man he hates the heat so had us up every morning at ungodly hours to beat the heat!

So on the second day after an early rise we took a short drive to Murchison Gorge in Kalbarri National Park. Here we got to view Natures Window, the Loop and discover the wonders of the extremely hot Z-Bend Gorge. It is an exhilarating 150 metre descent into the heart of the gorge – well worth the effort.

After that we made our way toward Monkey Mia, stopping at the beautiful Shell Beach which is a beach thats looks like sand but on closer inspection it is made of millions of tiny tiny perfectly formed shells. Collected some to bring home! then onto the Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort for our overnight stop.
