Try and Try Again
From Sistine Chapel in Vatican City on Feb 26 '06
27th- Woke up and heard rain, Cook has no rain coat and we knew we'd have to wait in line outside so we didn't go to the Sistine Chapel like we'd planned. We went to the train stationa nd looked at the cute mall they have below it, didn't buy anything. Still raining so Cook worked on catching up on her journal and I did postcards and stuff. Went to the post office, Italy has the ugliest stamps. Did more journal, got some pizza, needed more sauce, more of Cook's favorite gellato and bought train tix. Then went to bed.
28th- Woke up early and got out and onto the bus. Got to the line, thinking since it was early it would be short but, nope. The line went down one street, turned, down another street, turned and another street and finally one final street. I can't even imagine in Summer. Get in and we both thought that it was just the Sistine Chapel but the Vatican museum is huge, I mean it would take weeks to see it all. Amazing. We had a train to catch so we raced to the Sistine Chapel and, It. Was. Unbelievable. Seriously it there are frescoes everywhere and so many different little details and wow. Since they cleaned it a while ago it is just so vibrant and beautiful. We bought a book as we ran out. Got to the train station but like, two minutes late. Next train didn't leave for 2 hours, I was bummed because we could have stayed longer at the museum. More gelatto. The train to Pisa took a lot longer than we'd expected and by the time we got the it was raining and dark so no leaning tower and no goofy photo of me holding it up =(. Took the next train to Florence and got to the bus station just in time for them to close and kick us out. It was 8 or 8:30. Plus the Eurolines office had already closed and she didn't know if we could buy tix from the driver. So we stood outside in the rain, huddled under an awning till 10:30 when the bus arrived. We were sooooo cold. They sold us a ticket, thank goodness and then when we arrived in Nice at 4:30 they stopped at an intersection and booted us out. We wandered around for hours till we find the youth hostel. Wait in the dining room and I sort of sleep a little.
Why do buses hate us?
