Leaning Tower of Pisa!

Thursday March 27th

9am on Thursday morning we started our 4 hour bus ride to Pisa! The bus ride took forever!!!!! Liz and I wanted to play cards but didn’t have any so we made them out of paper. We had blue hearts and diamonds and black circles and stars! Haha it was so much fun!

It started to lean when only three of the eight stories had been completed.

We had two hours in Pisa to eat and to explore and obviously see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Pisa is home to the bizarre, Moorish-influenced ensemble of the Leaning Tower, the Duomo (cathedral) and the Baptistery. All three buildings tilt and the Tower had just undergone 10 years of successful restoration. The Leaning Tower of Pisa was built after the Duomo in 1173. It started to lean when only three of the eight stories had been completed. The authorities, fearing a collapse, closed the tower in 1990 while engineers sought a remedy. It was finally decided that soil should be extracted from the foundations on the opposite side to the lean and by early 2001 the top of the tower had been brought back to 75cm, a ten percent reduction in inclination. The tower has reopened to the public, with up to 30 people at a time allowed up the 293 steps of the narrow spiral staircase.

In Pisa we ate obviously at an Italian restaurant and I had pizza. Yummy. We also ordered wine and it was really good. We took ridiculous pictures around the Leaning Tower of Pisa and then got back on the bus to go to Florence. It was an hour and half to Florence.

Once we got to Florence we went out in the rain to look at shops and then after it stopped raining Steph, Mandy, Merry, Katie, Liz and I met up with Steph’s friend Danny and his friends Jeff, Garrett, Matt and Matt’s sister Erin. We played beer pong, I played 2 games and the girls and I drank two bottles of rum and off to the club we went. It was called Twice. We stayed for a hour of maybe longer, I’m not sure. We were all pretty drunk. We took a taxi home and went to sleep.
