The thing about travelling in China is - you have to love trains. So we boarded the first of many overnight sleeper trains to Xi'an. In doing so we entered the world of locals spitting in closed spaces, the joy of deciphering which bed you are allocated (it still confuses us) and the very un-olympic sport of cue jumping. The Chinese take gold, silver and bronze in this event.

Rob had been to Xi'an before so he promptly took control of the situation once we arrived. Under his vast Xi'an knowledge we were able to safely make our way to the 'best' hostel in town and in the process spending only $0.15 each on transportation. What a guy. He also managed to lose our Lonely Planet in the process, leaving it at the train station amongst the madness of high pressure decision making. Fortunately the Chinese are an honest people (Confucious you the man) and it was quickly recovered with the minimal of fuss. Face saved.
