Detour: Closing Time
From 1,200 Hours in North America in Hyde Park, United States on Jun 28 '08
I think from time to time I’m going to write what I call a “detour” -- a departure from our typical narration to comment (or more likely, rant) about a general traveling topic. This topic: Closing Times
So, what is with everything closing at 4pm or 5pm??? I mean, we’re not 5am rises, but we’re not being too lazy either. We’re waking up around 9am in the morning, but if we have any driving time in the morning, it’s a real struggle to make it to tourist attractions with enough time to see everything! I know that our country was founded by Puritans and all, but I think we’ve thrown off a majority of those conservative customs. Can’t we keep stuff open a little later??
Until that happens, our strategy continues to be driving at night, so that we can wake up in the city we want to see, see everything before it closes, then hit the road at night to make it to the next city. Weird.
