Another day of driving through endless wilderness gets us to White shell beach in time for lunch.  It's just what it says on the tin, an endless pure white (hurts the eyes in the sun) beach made of tiny white shells.  It is an extraordinary place, as we're now entering an area called sharks Bay we decide against a swim, in any case we're still coated in a thick layer of flies as soon as we get out of the van so it's not a pleasant prospect anyway.

The weather takes a change for the worse and we head up the peninsular in torrential rain that sends meter deep water across the roads at floodways in minutes, just as quickly it stops and we get to Monkey Mia late in the day and get settled into a lovely spot.  Kim makes two fly sheilds from our mosquito net to try and get some relief then head to the small pool.  Just doggy paddling up and down when we get a call from Derek and Terry.  It was just sooo great to hear their voices, crammed in our van we feel we're starting to lose touch with the rest of the world we can't thank you enough for taking the time to keep in touch.

We pop into the site cafe for some food as we don't want to cook and eat in the van (It's too hot) and you can't go outside cos of the flies.  There's a liverpudlian waitress.

"Yer the floys drive me noots I doughn know whoot to do"

"Catch the first flight back home to where you can walk about without getting a gob full of the bloody things"

We planned to stay here a few days but it's impossible.  The place is famous for its Dolphin encounters and sure enough next morning a dozen or so come up into the shallows and swim in amongst the folk on the beach, amazing what dolphins will do when you give them food.  I like to think a couple of them are sharks in dolphin suits that pick off the odd tourist now and again.  We spot a turtle in amongst the waves and make friends with some pelicans, then defeated by the flies we hit the road.
