Layover day! argh! already?  I don't want to stop hiking, but my sneakers are wet.  I do my laundry.  It is such a small load...essentially one outfit.  I use the Woolite I bought this morning.  I put arch support gel insoles into my sneakers in place of the original insoles.  At noon, I go with two guys from the hostel (from Atlanta) to La Jolla for a guided thirteen mile bike tour at a bike, hike, and kayak shop.  Our tour guide is awesome...truly a great guy.  We do this bike trip that is EXACTLY the bike trail route that I took yesterday after I decided to walk on the cliffs not under them.  It is refreshing to be on the bike, wind in my hair, adrenaline in my veins, and me trying to keep up with the boys.  The only thing that is different about today's route is we start from atop a scenic overlook hilltop.  I make three rotations of my pedals and then my seat falls off.  The guys are so nice, one of them trades seats with me and ends up pedaling standing up the entire trip...it is difficult for him but very chivalrous.  I remember why I don't ride bikes more often...klumsy girl + bike = constant test of my balance at 10 mph.  I don't wipe out...not even once...quite remarkable for me.  I wore my wet sneakers for the bike trip (what other choice did I have?) and I look down to find that my sneakers have "magically" dried.  There are two keg parties on my hostel porch tonight: one at 4pm and the other at 7pm.  I don't drink...but I sit on the porch with a cup of tea, attempting to ward off the cold I know is lurking in my throat.  Almost everyone in the hostel is sick already...and I don't feel the need to join the ranks of the sick.  I am suddenly sick of being in this environment...so I grab my Crocs and head out on the boardwalk for a late night stroll.  I know it is not in my best interest to walk alone at night...but I just need some air.

Speeding down hills, avoiding traffic in intersections, and remembering the cardinal rule...never walk your bike...now I'm ready to ride
