Day 25 - Lyon + Tours (Loire V.) - June 28
From Western Europe Peregrination in Tours, France on Jun 27 '07
We slept in late today because there wasn't much else to see in Lyon and almost missed our train to Tours via Paris. When we arrived in Tours after about 6 hours of traveling we went to the tourist office for some information and then directly to our hotel which was right near the train station. We got settled and went over to a restaurant, Le Petit Patrimoine, which was recommended by both Frommers and our hotel manager. It turned out to be a spectacular experience. We had some amazing French food that was cooked to perfection, presented exquisitely, and had some amazing sauces drizzled over the dishes. We noticed on the menu that there was a bottle of wine dated from 1984 that was only 30 euros but was also their most expensive bottle of wine. We decided to splurge and drink wine that was bottled before both of us were born; it was amazing and smooth. At dinner, we met a couple from France who spoke almost no English. It was fun to try to communicate with them even though the conversation was slow and tedious. They were very nice people. After dinner, we went back to our place to crash.
this wine has been waiting for us our entire lives, literally
