The Last Day
From Randi & Marty in India in India on Dec 11 '07
Today is our last day of vacation. We woke quite early and got to see all of the river birds waking. This was especially fun for Marty who is never up this early in the morning. After a nice breakfast, we cruised for a bit and then we had to leave our lovely houseboat and go back into civilization.
We “landed” at Allepey and took a tour of the town and walked through a truly authentic fish market. We stopped at a Festival, but it had not started yet and we were way too hot to stay too long. We did get to see some more wonderful elephants – very close up.
Today is our last day of vacation.
We also stopped at a place where women are spinning coir – This is the fiber from the coconuts which they spin into rope from which they make carpets, mattresses, and door mats. We actually got to see them making the door mats.
Then to the Marari Beach Hotel which is the sister property of the hotel we stayed at in Cochin. It is a beautiful resort and we have use of their facilities. Marty and I walked on the beach while Charles and Debbie sat in the shade and read. We then had a lovely lunch and here we are.
Plan for the rest of the day is to get to Cochin airport and fly to Bangalore. If all goes as planned, we will have time for a shower and change of clothes at Charles’s house and then off to our flight to Frankfurt and then home. All in all – 24 hours of travel. We are sad to be leaving but ready for hot showers on demand and clean clothes.
