Lovely Lovely Copenhagen
From Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark on Feb 15 '06
The first thing we noticed about Copenhagen is the friendliness of the people there. We were in a little cafe eating lunch when we noticed the people next to us doing some shots. It was a bit strange to see people our parent's ages drinking so heavily at 1 in the afternoon so we inquired about the shots. They were drinking Schnapps, which is very popular in Nordic countries to drink with kippers (small very salty fish). Of course we had to try some and in return for their generosity we bought the next round of beers. 3 hours later and more than a little tipsy we were dragged to the jazz bar that the man used to own to continue the evening. This far north night starts around 2:30pm and goes until sun up, which is about 10am the next day. By about 7pm we were ready for bed so we headed to the hotel to take a little nap.
Around midnight we woke up again and went back out to once again experience the active nightlife of Copenhagen. One of the first bars we came accross was playing live music so we stopped in to have a listen and met some really friendly college age kids who only spoke a little English. We communicated with hand signals and broken English for the night, but everyone was smiling and all had a great time.
