5 days in Prague
From Well this is potentially the most randon trip ever planned out! It has absolutly zero plan to in Prague, Czech Republic on May 30 '07
Well they say the thing is with Prague is that you show up with full intentions on staying for 2 days and always end up staying longer.... and the rumors couldn't have been more right. I had full intentions of only staying a few days max here but I just can't get enough of this city. It's so wierd because the city is raelly sketchy at times... especially in areas filled with tourists, the locals know how to and will take full advantage of the naivness of the tourists, but I'll get to that in a little. So when I got to my hostel and checked in I realised that I would be staying in a 32 bed room.... Thats right 32 freaking people in one room. It's been fantastic I can't think of a better way to meet people or see so much action between people in a night haha. Like the first night I was here there was a full on fist fight between two girls, it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life! But anyways back to Prague. My first day here was pretty mellow but because I had caught the night train I arrived at 700 am here and had a while day to take it in, So I headed to old town and the city square. This place is absolutly stunning. By far the best arcitecture I've seen in ANY of the cities I've gone to so far. I honestly have a sore neck from just spending hours and hours on end looking straight up at buildings because every single building in old town is absolutly amazing. After a day of wandering around though I was exausted but much to my bodies dismay and there people 32 people in my room... there just simply isn't time to sleep when you could be partying. So we headed on a Pub crawl! Which is basically you pay a flat rate and get 5 free drinks and free cover into all 5 bars and clubs you head too! What an amazing night... when I was able to reflect on when I was walking back to the hostel with a couple guys from ottawa and it was already totally light out and people were gettign ready to start their day! Turns out we didn't actually get home until 630 am... but hey it's travelling it's suppose to be crazy, right?! Woke up the next day or afternoon should I say and it was time to venture down to Prague castle which is a castle that overlooks the whole city and dates back nearly 2000 years. It was absolutly massive! We spent an entire day in there and I dont think we ever saw the same thing twice. The insides of the castle have been transformed into giant musems and art galleries which were asboltly entralling. I have never been so interrested in history! It's really a shame it couldn't have been this much fun in High school or I would have totally taken it! It's absolutly amazing that something so massive and stunning could have been build so long ago! After wandering around the castle it was time to head back to the hostel and maybe get some sleep. but again 31 other people will enventually ware your defenses down and you have no choice but to head out for another night of partying! THis time we went to a bar which was in a cave. It was sooo cool cause the cave was 5 floors deep and every floor you went to was another style of music or had a differnent feel to it! After another solid night of partying there it was time to find a way home. Some people took cabs some people took the tram. We took the tram which turned out to be the best idea because when we had gotten home there was a guy and his girlfriend that we went out with crying and yelling when we got home and they had taken a cab. Turns out that when they got into the cab and told the cabbie where to take them he started heading in the complete opposite direction! So they told him to turn around and take them home... But he isisted that they were comign with him and there was nothign they could do about. So they told him to pull over and let them out of the car but he refused. Eventually at a light he had slowed down a little bit so they jumped out of the moving car... but the cabbie stopped the car and chased after them and pepper sprayed them both! So ridiculous! I guess there are stories though of cabbies driving people into alleyways and they have a couple people waiting there who jump out and gas the car and steal everythign you have while your passed out. Then just leave you in the alleyway. So I suppose pepper spray is alright when considering the other side of things. Still note to self... dont take a cab while your in eastern europe. So that brings me to yesterday which was going to be my day of relaxing but I figured I would go wander around the city center with a guy from Texas and a guy from North Carolina. We headed to another musem called the torture musem which was absolutly CRAZY!! It had over 60 differnent instuments that they sued to use to torture witches and other people deemed evil. Lets just say it was a good thing I hadn't eaten Breakfast yet cause the pictures showing how they used the machines didn't leave much to the imagination! After that we were wandering around and I notcied this massive tower in the distance... so being the ridiculous kid I am I figured it would be a great idea to hike there haha! Well about 2 hours later and 50 pounds lighter we finally made it up this massive mountain and to the bottom of the Petrin Tower. Which is apparently a tower you can pay to go up and see the most amazing view of the city. And they weren't kidding cause it was absolutly breathtaking. I've never ever in my entire life seen such an amazing view then in this 300 foot high tower in Prague! So cool... a little scary to climb especially in the wind when the tower is rocking but so worth it when we got there! After that and a 2 and half hour walk home it was time to party again! Everyone was heading to this 5 sotry club where again every level is a different style of music... But my body just couldn't handle it this time! I finally was able to finally get a little rest!!!! haha but now I've woken up today and I met a couple new people from Ottawa during breakfast and they're going to take me to the opera tonight! I'm so stoked! I'll tell you all about it in my next blog!
Stay safe everyone! Love adam!
