Another quick layover on my way to the east coast!

So I made it to Thailand! After crossing the second border in southeast asia without any issues I was happy to make it safely to my destination, Krabi, basically a stopping off point on the west coast.

I took the ferry from Langkawi with Owen, an interesting Irishman who had volunteered to work in the states. We had a great discussion about the U.S. on the long bus ride from Satun to Krabi. He lived in Kansas City, of all places in the states so he could honestly say that he had experienced middle america. I have to thank James, a really friendly Britishman, who bailed both Owen and I out of a bit of a problem at Satun where we didn't have any Bhat (Thai money) and the ATM wasn't working so he fronted us the money for the bus ticket to get to Krabi. It's amazing how these things just work out sometimes.

I had my first experience with the typical form of transport here in Thailand, the sangthaew (I have to check my spelling on this one). It's basically a pickup truck with a covered back and two bench seats that's used as a taxi of sorts. I learned that one should not attempt to slide into the back with your huge backpack on as I ended up on the floor of the truck when my pack wouldn't come off and it slid off the bench. Fortunately everyone (including myself) thought it was funny. I felt like a turtle, lying on the floor of the truck and it took me a bit to get out of my pack. It would have been bad if it had only been me laughing!!!

The west coast of Thailand is being pounded with rain, we arrived off the ferry in Satun and it was just pouring! During the monsoon season the west coast gets hit this time of year and the east coast is drier. After experiencing all of this rain I decide that instead of trying to hit Koh Phi Phi, as I had thought I would do, I will head over to the island of Koh Samui tomorrow and hope for better weather!
