So...why not spend a couple of weeks exploring Uruguay? We had originally planned to leave Brazil by entering straight into Argentina, but after a some consideration we changed our plans to include the little country of Uruguay. Our plans soon materialized to include some of the best cities that Uruguay has to offer...starting at the famous beach city of Punta del Este, to the beautiful country side in Minas. Then to the heart and cultural center of Uruguay in Montevideo and the historical city of Colonia del Sacramento and its surrounding areas.

We had decided to enter Uruguay through the border city of Chuy...and so we did!! However, our stay here was short lived and quickly we found ourselves heading to Punta del Este. Not that Chuy is a horrible place, but arriving there at 4 o'clock in the morning and not finding a clean place to stay definitely helped us make the decision to leave.

But unlike most places, low season here means an entirely different thing!!!

As it has happened to us in almost every single location thus far, we arrived in Punta del Este in its low season. But unlike most places, low season here means an entirely different thing!!! It is hard to describe a large city that looks completely deserted. The best way to paint this picture is to think of those apocalypse movies that show cities like london completely abandoned except for a few heros and later a bunch o zombies chasing them...but that´s what it was like there!! Hotels had their door locked with big chains, the few restaurants that were opened closed around 6pm, even the traffic lights had been turned off!!! Of course, it is still a beautiful place and a great place to relax.

Our attempts to see some whales were all unsuccessful and we didn´t get a chance to go up the lighthouse and we got rained on quite frequently. All of this, plus the feeling of being stuck in the twilight zone, made us want to move on to our next location.

Então... porque não passar algumas semanas explorando o Uruguai? Originalmente tínhamos planejado deixar o Brasil indo direto pra Argentina, mas depois de alguma consideração, nós mudamos nossos planos para incluir o pequeno país do Uruguai. Nossos planos rapidamente se materializaram para incluir algumas das melhores cidades que o Uruguai tem a oferecer... começando pela famosa cidade de praia de Punta del Este, até a linda cidade de campo de Minas. Então, até o coração e centro cultural do Uruguai em Montevideo e a histórica cidade de Colônia del Sacramento e as áreas ao redor.

Nós decidimos entrar no Uruguai pela cidade de fronteira de Chuy... e assim fizemos!! Entretando, nossa estadia aqui foi curta e rapidamente fomos para Punta del Este. Não que Chuy seja um lugar horrível, mas chegar lá às 4 da manhã e não encontrar um lugar limpo para ficar definitivamente ajudou nossa decisão de partir.

Assim como aconteceu conosco em quase todos os lugares até agora, nós chegamos em Punta del Este em baixa temporada. Mas ao contrário de outros lugares, baixa temporada aqui quer dizer uma coisa completamente diferente!!! É difícil descrever uma cidade grande que parece completamente deserta. A melhor maneira de pintar este quadro é imaginar aqueles filmes apocalípticos que mostram cidades como Londres completamente abandonadas, exveto por alguns heróis e depois um bando de zumbis perseguindo-os... mas assim que parecia lá!! Os hotéis tinham suas portas trancadas com grandes correntes, os poucos restaurantes que estavam abertos fechavam as 18 horas, até mesmo as luzes de trânsito eram desligadas!!! Claro, ainda assim é um lugar lindo e um ótimo lugar pra relaxar.

Nossas tentativas de ver algumas baleias não tiveram sucesso, nós não tivemos chance de subir no farol e choveu frequentemente. Tudo isso, mais o sentimento de estar preso "além da imaginação" nos fizeram querer ir para a próxima parada.
