I spent the day in Canterbury today.  Patrick had been there without me and since he was working I decided to make a day of it.  It is a really great day trip from London, only an hour and a half from Victoria Station.

And these are my Canterbury Tales:

my Canterbury Tales

I first visited the Cathedral which is beautiful, but I would have to say the highlight was that Kent College was rehearsing for an orchestral performance tonight...wow were they ever amazing.  I really enjoyed sitting in the Cathedral and hearing the music reverberate off of the high ceilings and all of the concrete surroundings...very surreal.  The grounds of the Cathedral are also really amazing.  I highly recommend spending some time wandering around the perimeter of the Cathedral.  Most tourist just entered and then exited straight away, they really missed out on some amazing parts of the entry fee.

Following the Cathedral I went to St. Augustine's Abbey.  It was nice, but when I was there quite crowded.  They provide the audio guide for free and I felt that I had to rush through it in order to get away from the people following me.  On a nicer day this would be a really great site, but it was a bit chilly to be spending a lot of time standing in one place, listening to the audio guide.

After the Abbey, I really just walked around the town.  Canterbury is a really quaint little town.  I ended up bumbing into the Norman castle and the church.  There are lots of attractions in the town dedicated to Geoffrey Chaucer, but they were all pretty pricey, and having read the Canterbury Tales, I prefer to remember them my way, and not via some "educational center".
