The ferry was about 30 minutes late getting to Sitia and about 2 hours late by the time we reached Rhodes -- at 12:30 AM!!  (We met a guy from Vancouver who had gotten on in Santorini at 4:30 AM -- long boat ride for him!)  Luckily we found a room and it was nice and in the Old Town so we stayed 3 nights.  It had A/C (needed) and a fridge.

The old section of Rhodes Town is really neat.  There's lots of winding alleyways to get lost in.  Though they're not very wide, there were lots of motorbikes and cars whizzing through them.  We saw a couple of close calls, including a scraped side mirror as two cars passed each other.

The Old Town is divided into 3 sections:  the Knights Quarter, the Hora, and the Jewish Quarter.  The Knights Quarter has the cobblestone Avenue of the Knights where the knights lived.  The knights were divided into the seven tongues or languages indicating their origin and each was responsible for some section of the bastion.  The Hora, otherwise known as the Turkish Section, contained many of the restaurants and shops.  The Jewish Quarter is a small and quiet area where life seems to proceed as normal.

We really enjoyed exploring the Old Town and the harbour, walking around the fortress walls and checking out the shops.
