Europe's Youngest Capital City

Cardiff is billed as Europe's Youngest Capital City and this might be the reason that it was such a disappointment.  Thankfully we left a Cardiff tour to the last day of our trip because there was very little to do.

We got up and headed to Cardiff Castle - a must for any visitor.  The Castle was spectacular.  The interior is the most intricately decorated Castle either of us have ever seen.  Unfortunately, in order to see the inside of the Castle you have to take a guided tour.  Not only is the tour really boring and completely scripted, but it is overpriced when compared to all of the other sights we saw in Wales.  I do believe that just visiting the grounds of the Castle would not be sufficient, its just unfortunate that visitors can't just wander around the Castle in their own time.

After the Castle we headed down to Cardiff Bay.  Our tour book really pumped up Cardiff Bay and maybe in the summer it is the place to be, but it was completely deserted when we were there and there was nothing to do.  We next went to the Wales National Museum and although the Museum was really cool neither of us were in the mood to sift through the 1000s of displays.

All in all, Cardiff was a major disappointment. I wouldn't recommend any traveler to stay in Cardiff longer than one day.  I felt that one day was even too long.  In the summer I can imagine it is a bit more fun, but really the best part of our trip was everything we did and saw outside of the city.
