Salzburg - Sound of Music town!
From The Journey Begins in Salzburg, Austria on Jul 05 '06
Salzburg is up there on my favorite places now! First of all we arrived in TORRENTIAL downpour and were in this little campground in some tent contraption with awful beds, but we moved to a caravan the next night so that was much better.
It is so green and pretty around the area, the Alps loom over the town and there are flowers everywhere! I did a sound of music tour in the morning on the first day which was great fun, annoying being in a bus but they had the soundtrack on and took us to the Von Trappe home from the movie, the gazebo, out into the country side, the wedding cathedral and all that, very fun to see it all! The fountains in Mirabell gardens (also in the movie) were beautiful, with a view of the huge fort on the hill in town. I went up the fort that afternoon and got to do some free tour thing on its history and all that. Poked around some stores too, the shopping over here is insane everywhere, for the most part though I have restrained myself!
Day 2 we went up this cable car to the top of Untersburg Mountain (thus putting us in Germany at the top) and hiked around there, the aussies were VERY impressed with the small glaciers around , lots of photos of them with SNOW. Another highlight was the Palace with trick fountains, where they take you around and suddenly water attacks you from all sorts of weird places, he picked on Cam and I mercilessly so we were SOAKED as we went to catch the train the Munich! Very fun though!! THe palace is gorgeous too!!!
