Arrived in Sydney at 11.00am and bought a 3 day pass the trains, buses, underground, trams and ferries. Took the underground to St James and booked in at the Swissotel. We arrived and checked in we were handed a letter to say that Geoff and Renee friends from Esporta had arrived. We went for a walk to Darling Harbour and took the ferry to Circular Quay for our first sight of The Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the skyline. One the way back we stopped at Luna Park and rode the Ferris Wheel to take great pictures of Opera house, bridge and harbour. In the evening we met Steve Arthur seeing him for the first time in 3 years, since he emigrated.

Monday we went on a two and a half hour harbour cruise viewing the sights from the water. We also took in some sights from the Sydney Explorer bus with commentary from the driver, at 6.00pm we met Steve at the Domestic Air Terminal who took us to his house in Woolongong, via the beach where we met Hazel, Steves mum, Rob Arthur, wife Linda and their three daughters. We enjoyed drinks and nibbles with them before having a barbecue at Steves with his children Meg and Dan.

Tuesday we took the train into Sydney Central, then the bus to Circular Quay and took the ferry to Manly Beach spent time on the beach watching surfers.

Sydney Harbour is a beautiful place to spend some time, did you get to see round the Opera House? It is actually 4 theatres and the design was won by a Dane in a competition. At the time and with the technology and materials available, it was not possible to construct the building and it had to be modified much to the disgust of the designer who had nothing more to do with it.
