Here I am on my first real excursion. I don't have class the week of the Feb 20th, so I decided to take a little trip up to Ireland to visit a good friend of mine from Iowa State, Bethany. Bethany is currently studying this semester in Cork. So I flew into Cork from Paris, it was an extremely long flight, a whole hour and a half. haha. After a little taxi ride I finally got the apartment building Bethany was staying in and BIFFED it walking from the street to the side walk, those damn curbs!

Bethany walked around town a little bit and stopped in a pub so I could have my first Irish Guinness. It was definitely different, a meal more than a beer.

We took a little weekend trip to Limerick to see some of Bethany's Irish friends, the Limerick Lads. Saturday was beautiful, sunny and warm, apparently freakishly weird for Ireland in February. We walked around Limerick some. We went through the city centre and went to the Hunt Museum. That night after a great dinner we went out! It was mighty good craic (fun)! We went to a pub called Nester's and then to a dance club called The Trinity Rooms. I will never understand Europeans obsession with techno. Whenever a new "song" started everyone went nuts and would clap! Not going to lie, it all sounded the same to me.

Sunday, we went to King John's Castle, named because it was commissioned to be built by him, but he never actually went there. It was the site for the Battle of Limerick during the Williamite Wars. We walked around and took a lot of pictures from the walls and within the castle. For some reason or another, there was a covered wagon within the walls of the castle and we had a great time taking pictures with it. Afterwards we left and took the bus back to Cork. This week coming up is a trip to the Blarney Stone, and you know I am going to kiss it! and possibly a trip to Gallaway! Will update you later!

Maybe when you get back you'll be clapping when your favorite song comes on! I'll bet your face was classic when people starting doing that! Do you want me to send you some glow sticks while you're there? Glad to here the Ireland trip is going good - have a great time!

Auntie Jean You need to try the black & white sausages! Just remember all those lips that have been on the Blarney Stone, Yew! I didn't kiss the stone, but was at the castle. Glad you're having good weather, it was raining and cold last year at this time when I was there. Had one Guiness, and had to search for good wine. Have a great time.
