Monday, January 2 - My first day

This is where I type all my journal entries. The accommodations here are way more modern than I anticipated!

My alarm didn't go off this morning, so I slept until 11:20AM! The phone woke me up. I suspect it was one of the two other teachers calling from their cell phone (called a "handphone" here) downstairs. I think they were worried I wasn't feeling well. So far I feel pretty good...just a little tired from staying up so late.

I had lunch with the other teachers today at Pizza Uno at Centrepoint, the shopping plaza nearby. We spent the afternoon talking about the schedule and some of the students. I'm teaching science on Wednesday - the first day back to school. I hope I do a good job...I hope the students like me...I hope I'm a good teacher...

Here's my street. You can see that the houses are all very similar and why I'm likely to lose my way. The streets have names like "Jalan BU 11/7" and "Jalan BU 11/6." Real original... ;P

Tonight I went to dinner with one of the families here. The teachers I'm working with have scheduled me to have meals with all the students' families, which should be nice. Tonight I went out with just the gals in the family to Penang Village, a restaurant in the village of Taman Tun Dr. Ismail ("TTDI" or just "Taman Tun"). The food was excellent; we had chicken with mango along with a vegetable dish that had carrots and lotus root. Interesting! After dinner they drove me around my neighborhood to show me where a couple other families live. I hope I can remember. All the houses along here look just alike, so every street looks just the same, too! That should make things interesting, to say the least. :)

Oh, I'm sweating just sitting here. I'm downstairs with no fans on - big mistake! It's time for bed anyway. Almost 11:15PM already! My how time flies... I'll try to write more tomorrow.
